Red Cove Feedback

. . .

Dear Family and Friends,

Welcome to this week's "Thoughtlet."

These words are my personal diary and a weekly review of ideas, beliefs, thoughts, or words that will hopefully be of some benefit to you: my children, my family, and my friends.

"Sunday, April 16th, we were back in church. There was a new member of my CTR-8 Primary Class attend, Cody McInroe. He doesn't come very often, and he is very quiet when he comes. I was able to attend his baptism several months later (0641.html). George Schultz spoke in Sacrament meeting, and I took words for a possible stanza for Prime Words from his talk:

'We must be willing to die For others in the military We must be willing to live For others on a mission'

Monday, April 17th, I went to the POPs luncheon. Mayor Bil White spoke. I was late and was sitting at the back. He came right up to me and shook my hand like he knew me. Then he went to the front and spoke. Good politician. I wrote another possible stanza based on his comments:

'If we are going to Compete based on brains Then we need to Invest and limit drains'

Wednesday, April 19th, was the day the name for this Thoughtlet happened. My notes say there Red Cove feedback from both Rick Duran and Mic Patterson. However, it has been so long ago, I can not reconstruct the feedback. There are system messages saying files were deleted in both of their e-mail files for the same time on this day. So maybe this system error is why I can not find e-mails nor files implied by my notes. I recall Rick sent me a note telling me the presentation was much too complex, with too many bullets on each page. He sent me a presentation as an example, and maybe it is on the PC at work, and this is why I can not find the files. Mic sent me a wonderful redraft of my 88 page investment proposal, which after I added photos was 3 pages (http://www.walden3d.com/Red_Cove/pdf/060322_Red_Cove_Village.pdf). I figure anyone interested in my Red Cove feedback can get the general idea by reading this pdf file.

Thursday, April 20th, Melanie contacted me and said that Colby wants to go camping with me in Hong Kong. I found an e-mail dated April 20th to Roger Anderson and Albert Boulanger, implying I talked to them about both Red Cove and the water in Cedar Valley (0618.html):

'Roger and Albert, Sure good to talk to you two this morning. You provided some nice perspective to what I've been working on. When I called the Chairman of the Board of the Iron County Water Conservancy Board to make sure I was on the schedule for May 4th, I learned: (1) they typically have between 10 and 20 people attend; and (2) the most they can allow me to talk is 20 minutes. So I will be reworking the presentation a lot, and probably not saying much about energy. The current draft of the presentation is at http://www.walden3d.com/cedarcity/CedarValleyWater/060417/, and I will have a significant rework off of the CedarValleyWater directory by early next week. Thanks for your thoughts and for helping me keep a reasonable perspective. Look forward to cooking dutch oven potatoes and cobbler, as well as some bar-b-que salmon or something similar when you come down to the OTC, if you would like. Best Regards, Roice'

Saturday, April 22nd, was another big day for my Primary Class. Based on our performance for the Nottingham Country Ward Relief Society social (0610.html), we were asked by Sister Sky in the Stake Relief Society to perform for the Wisdom Women lunch and program on Saturday. I got there at 11:00 and set up the projector and screen. Then the kids arrived at 12:00 and we had an ice cream party. They spent time running and climbing trees and playing baseball and eating ice cream. It was fun. Then at 12:45 we sang our songs. I had used the digital camera to capture some of their comments about what wisdom means. They were very funny, and they would not project so I had to turn the computer around. Oh well! The kids were still a bit antsey, and President Pickerd made the comment, 'They will be forgiven when they are baptized.' Sister Swope is the Stake Relief Society President, and when she went to introduce me to the sisters she said, “Do you know who this is?" Knowing she was going to embarrass me with some comment about Landmark Graphics, I interrupted her and said, “I'm their Primary Teacher." She caught herself, and said, 'Yes, Roice has the best job in the church." We did the same three songs we did before:

  1. Scriptures,
  2. I'm Trying To Be Like Jesus, and
  3. The Animal's Testimony Meeting.
I think the kids enjoyed it, and I always enjoy doing this type of activity. There was no question the ladies over 70 invited to this luncheon enjoyed it, even if the kids were a little rambunctious. It did take a little while to clean up the room we ate the ice cream in. Oh well!

Sunday, April 23rd, was typically busy. I had two visitors in my primary class. Cassidy was visiting from Cuidad del Carmen. I found it fascinating I had never even heard of this place before Andrea and I visited there five weeks before this Sunday (0612.html). The other visitor was named Raven, and she was from Brookshire. Also, I believe this was the first Sunday I had a second man in class with me, under the new rules from Church Headquarters that if a male teaches Primary, he is to have another person in the classroom with him. My shadow and substitute is Thor Larson. Thor has a wonderful tenor voice, and it is fun to sing the Primary Songs with him. David Williams spoke in Sacrament Meeting, and I took the following words from his talk as a possible stanza for Prime Words:

'We were just goofy kids Because we had a chance to serve As pall bearers at a classmate's funeral We learned of our Savior's love'

Sunday evening I went Home Teaching. I sang 'CTR-8 Testimonies' (0614.html) and “Media." When I went to visit Dong Ning Liu I met her husband, Ting Song, for the first time. Lastly, if my notes are right, this Sunday evening was the day I first learned our newest granddaughter's name: Halle Nalise Wright. And based on all that has not happened, this is much more important than any Red Cove feedback."

Since the 38th week of 1996 I have written a weekly "Thoughtlet" (little statements of big thoughts which mean a lot to me). Until the 43rd week of 2004 I sent these out as an e-mail. They were intended to be big thoughts which mean a lot to me. Over time the process evolved into a personal diary. These notes were shared with my family because I know how important the written word can be. Concerned about how easy it is to drift and forget our roots and our potential among all of distractions of daily life, I thought this was a good way to reach those I love. It no longer feels right to send out an e-mail and "force" my kids and my family to be aware of my life and struggles.

Everyone has their own life to lead, and their own struggles to work through. I will continue this effort, and will continue to make my notes publicly accessible (unless I learn of misuse by someone who finds out about them, and then will aggressively pursue a legal remedy to copyright infringement and I will put the Thoughtlets behind a password).

The index to download any of these Thoughtlets is at http://www.walden3d.com/thoughtlets, or you can e-mail me with questions or requests at rnelson@walden3d.com (note if you are not on my e-mail "whitelist" you must send 2 e-mails within 24 hours of each other in order for your e-mail to not be trashed).

With all my love,
Dad
