 In the geophysical world we have created synthetic seismic traces from well logs for decades.  
These allow us to tie the depth in a well to the travel-time on a seismic section.  These models have expanded to include offset 
models for studying anticipated seismic amplitudes as a function of the offset of the seismic source and receivers.  One of the 
more interesting models is the work of Dr. Scott Bowman, who has developed software to simulate with a geological model the 
probability reservoir sands will be found along a certain cross-section (Figure 35).
