  8. APPENDIX I. Philosophy (Words from Songs):

I strive to keep my mind busy, Thinking, and opening new doors, Sometimes the paths are very dizzy, And sometimes open exciting tours. Show me truth so I'll be free, Give me strength to run with glee, Open up my eyes to see. I enjoy my work a lot, Creating jobs and being taught, Looking beyond what can be bought, Striving to find what will be sought. Open up my eyes to see, Open up my eyes please, Open up my eyes to see.Five people building, A structure for someday, Six people using, Offices from yesterday. Business involves commerce and manufacturing, It requires purchasing and selling, For a profit rightfully earning. Seven people staging, A plan for someday, Eight people serviced, By projects yesterday. Business encompasses our time and creativity, Distracting us from church and family, With things which we can't take to eternity. Nine people sowing, Good words for someday, Ten people reaping, Blessings from yesterday. Business becomes a field colored white, With harvesters reaping everything in sight, Preparing our worlds to be lifted to a new height. Eleven people kneel with thanks for today, Resolving to cooperate starting this day. Dreams are the story books, Exercising the inner soul, Feeding thoughts which make us look, Like an angel or like a ghoul. Images created (placed) in our minds eye A m D G Emotions, abstractions too, A release from reality, true reverie, Beauty, an ideal too. When thoughts drift with the sun, As it floats through the blue sky, They are called day dreams, And it happens to both you and I. Each part of the world is built on thoughts, That started out in someone's mind, Striving to improve the lot of man, They start the ball and watch what time will find. Even dreams from the story books, Turn out bad if others are immoral G C History shows ideas often took, A twisted path before reaching an ideal.

Merging mind and matter, Seeing through the chatter, To find oil and gas, And help find it fast. Patillo Higgins had a dream, Captain Anthony F. Lucas bought into the scheme, The Pittsburg wildcatter John Galey, Took time from planning his ideal city. To take a stake and mark the spot, Where the Texas oil boom would get hot In 1901, Spindletop pointed the way, With 75 thousand barrels per day. There is a city in the clouds, A place where everyone wants to go, Between reflection and Mount Hope, On the other side of the snow. Made with love and paved with gold, Sir Thomas Moore called it Utopia, Working together, helping each other, They call it Desert. The people there have one heart, one mind, And they dwell in righteousness, In the city they are equal, have harmony, There is no minority. The towers glitter like the sun in the sky, Showing the triumph of good, A place of peace, of true freedom, A shining ensign to the world. A glow gathers in the east, And light begins to shine forth, To shine on a world of disbelief, To show the night is but a thief. Red streaks across the sky, And paints the clouds as they pass by, A sign for all the world to see, To know, when they see the darkness flee. Like my God, who's there by my side, And shows me the right side of a smile, The Son will come, the sun will shine, And we our road will find.

Zion on my mind, Filling up my brain with right, Zion in my heart, Flowing through my veins with might. Never losing sight of the ultimate goal, Earth exists for us to share with other living souls, Zion is a place of safety, without any strife, Built upon the principles of celestial life. Zion is a real city that is built in many places, A modern Garden of Eden filling the in between spaces, A place of gathering, a land to publish peace, A place of refuge, where all poverty has ceased. Where the lion lies down next to the little lamb, The city of holiness, The New Jerusalem, Where the pure in heart find beauty and discover lasting joy, Preparing for the Lord to come are lovely girls and boys. As a man I have my dreams, But my wife sees it as a scheme, Wanting to improve the lot of man, She sees my efforts a distraction, I want to build a new city, She wants to strengthen our family, Why can't we work on both at once? I'm told I won't listen to her hunch, I still pursue my city plan, Risking angry reaction, Believing man was born to dream, Even when loved ones aren't on the team. Barker Reservoir, Picked in nineteen eight-four, As a place to prototype the plan, Barker Reservoir, For flood control and more, Harris County's play land. Back in nineteen ninety-nine, Was Walden 3-D's first plan, The intelligent habitat, mixed use development, Attacking the waste of spraw, Providing much more to all, Designing responsive environments, Built around people instead of cars, With an infrastructure core, For utilities and much more, Where one can walk to the store, Living in the door to Barker Reservoir. Now it's two thousand four, There are hike and bike trails and more, Thirteen hundred forty-five, Acres are for lease Thursday, I don't have the money, To bid and gain control, Of access and the surface, For grazing cattle and horses, And time for detailed planning, For tree houses blended in the scenery, Creating a new kind of city, Where families live with nature. All I want to do is change the world, To make a better place for boys and girls, Especially for my children and their kids, A safe place for them to grow and find their roots. Imagine cities growing from the earth, Geology extended forming housing berths, Trees and flowers and birds covering the girth, Nature's cycles framing human mirth. Friends and family walk and talk in peace, Helping each other's tame their beast, So competition and contention soon cease, And redirected energy pays growth's fees. Impossible without blessings from the Lord, He helps us guilty streams to ford, Turning aside justice's hanging sword, As we study and learn to follow His word. Computer networks monitor security, Modeling alternative scenario surety, Predicting and protecting from rarity, Helping create an environment of parity. Sunrise bringing light to the community, Artisans and citizens working in unity, Developing pride and selfishness immunity, Building a loving, sharing, moral community. Family, friends, and co-workers gather, At noon to eat and enjoy outside weather, Minstrels sing with birds in the heather, Tying nature and built form together. Evening comes and work transitions, Into time with daughters and with sons, The family and friends carefully listens, Even when bright sunset colors are missing. Days repeat across changing seasons, Community pride grows for many reasons, Others visit learning useful lessons, Seeking to find and replicate the essence. We will build a better loving world, As truths are carefully unreeled, Wait 'till people see the plans unfurled, All I want to do is change the world.

Life is a complex game, Full of joy and of pain, Hopefully we all gain, Knowledge of the truth, Taking a step back, Learning what not to pack, As we fill our life's sack, With service and love. Starting all over again and again, Nervous and scared when it's time to begin, Optimistic that I am not forsaken. Believing from bad dreams I'll soon awaken. Living in a museum, Protecting some of my life's work, Hoping someone will grab the baton, Making a difference by carrying on. Believing when you plant good seeds, Others eventually recognize your deeds, And they're not overcome with weeds, Eventually meeting other people's needs. Enjoy the view, It's the new you. Transitions happen, It's part of the plan. Now you can map them, From your new view of the land. Enjoy the view, Visualize the new you. Stilts that look like trees, Houses on stilts in the park, Viewing nature through the breeze, For mankind a new ark.

The Lord works from The inside out, The world works from The outside in. The world takes people Out of the slums, Christ takes the slums Out of people. Then they take themselves Out of the slums, Yes, Christ changes men And changed men can change the world. The world would mold men, By changing their environment, Christ changes men Who then change their environment. The world would Shape human behavior, But Christ can change Human nature. My farm to me is not just land, Where bare, unpainted buildings stand, To me my farm is nothing less, Than all created loveliness. My farm is not where I must soil, My hands in endless, dreary toil, But where, through seed and swelling pod, I've learned to walk and talk with God. We live in scary times, Agenda driven science forgets, Climate has always changed, Over days, months, or seasons, Centuries, millennia, and longer, Sea levels go up and go down, Flooding and creating reefs that, Today is the Florida peninsula, We have each had, Good teachers and bad, We have each built on, A sandy or a rocky foundation, Sometimes we forget, or, Maybe we do not know how to, Question the assumptions, Behind the teacher's lessons.

“Quiet times in the mountains, Reflecting on things we’ve done, Quiet times in the mountains, Lit by rays from the morning sun.” “Well said,” replied Candide, “but we must cultivate our garden.”
