Welcome to "Thoughtlets." This is a weekly review of an idea, belief, thought, or words that will hopefully be of some benefit to you, my children, with an electronic copy to on-line extended family members. Any of you can ask me not to clutter your mail box at any time.

"Roice came over for the annual lunch on May 27th, which happens to be the day Rachel's birthday is on. Rachel wants to stay 5 years old, and so she doesn't want to have any more birtdays. Roice played with Matt on the computer, beat me twice in chess, went swimming with Matt, and showed us all of his pictures from Europe. I wish Sara and Roice would have had time to say hi to Bruno Steinle while they were in Interlaken. They were also in a town in Holland where another of my missionary companions lives and they didn't even know it. Oh well! Roice left a little while ago to go to Rob's suprise party for passing the GED, the equivalent of graduating from High School. I'm pleased he accomplished this, and look forward to the day I will be able to share these types of feelings with him again.

My week was busy. I was at Chroma almost every day. Monday morning started out with a review of the BP project, and the rest of the time was spent working on the Texaco project. Tuesday morning I spent until 1:00 downtown working on my Landmark lisence at II&T to get ready for Dynamic's Offshore Texas project. I got to Chroma about 2:00 in the afternoon. Wednesday I met with Richard Nehring at II&T from 8:30 until about 10:00, and then worked at II&T from 11:00 until 6:00. Matt had a court of honor, where he was announced as the new Patrol Leader, and that evening I had a planning meeting with my Venturing Scout group. I got back to the house in time to watch the final 15 minutes of the final episode of Star Trek's Voyager. I was up until about 1:00 preparing a presentation for Fairfield the next morning. Thursday Sam LeRoy, Richard Nehring, and I met at Sam's office at 8:30, and at 9:00 Albert Boulanger conferenced in a call of some investors in Connecticut. That phone call lasted 50 minutes, and was interesting. They were particularly interested in the West Virginia drilling opportunity Parker Gay has come up with. They said they will get back to us this next week. We went to Fairfield Industries, met Peter Duncan, and had a meeting with Marc Lawrence asking for 43 blocks of 3-D Fairfield Data offshore Texas. He was receptive and said he would be back to us this next week. The afternoon was spent at Chroma, and the evening working at the computer at the house. Friday I wrote some e-mails, and spent the rest of the day at Chroma. I hope I can share images of some of the neat work we are doing some time in the future. It is a big secret now. I drove right back to Matt's soccer practice, changed, played goalee, talked to Swede Nelson and Parker Gay on the cell phone, and we got back to the house a little after 7:00. Busy week, and nothing as momentous as passing the GED.

Shortly after we got home Andrea and I went to Ted and Pam Romig's to wish Mike and his bride Jessica well. It was a good visit. Melanie and Sara, Tammie Romig lives in Austin at 4604 Pack Saddle Pass (512.693.8588), close to Melanie's old apartment. I encourage you both to go see her. She has gained a little weight and seems somewhat self-conscious, and she really looked beautiful to me. I feel like Mike's temple marriage had an impact on her. Pam Romig's Mom, who is also Sherry Sump's Aunt, was there. Gary and Sherry are taking care of Jennifer's baby because Jennifer and her husband were mixing up drugs in their house and lost custody. Life can be hard, and Sherry said she didn't sign up for this assignment. I guess no one likes to have to take an unexpected type of GED. Ted expressed interest in some of our offshore Texas Prospects for his company, Samadan. Mike and Jessica's video tape was wonderful. Melanie and Jared, when do I get to see your video tape? I cried as I watched them at the stairs of the Salt Lake Temple for I recalled another wedding and knew the mixed feelings of pain and joy Ted and Pam and Mike and Jessica were feeling. Oh well!

Saturday morning Matt was trained in CPR as part of his First Aid Merit Badge. I took Heather to work and picked up Matt for his Soccer Game at noon. They lost 5 to 3, and I think it was their only defeat of the year. Neat team, and it has been very good for Matt. I tried to take the metal shelves we got in Dallas when I was an Elder's Quorum President to Katy Christian Ministries, and they turned them down. Larry Law let us borrow his pickup. At 4:00 Andrea, Matt, and I went to Joe's Crab Shack on Highway 6 for his soccer team party. Nicely done. A physical education GED. I didn't even know the place was there, and the first time I have been to a Joe's Crab Shack. Sara has talked about going to them, and so now I have had the opportunity. When we got back Andrea and I went to the Maplewood Second Ward Building for a fireside about the impact of international law on families. It is sad how much power Satan has. I left feeling there isn't much I can do. Maybe if Dynamic is successful we can fund institutes to help promote things like gender means male and female. I was tired when we got home and tried to go to sleep.

Today was nice. Church, Roice, lunch, birthday cake, chess, and I started reading Michner's Texas. Towards the end of his acknowledgements he says: `Anders Saustrup, most knowledgeable in the minutiae of Texas history, carefully vetted the manuscript.' Ander's worked for me for a couple of years (../9711.html, ../9712.html, ../9852.html, ../0011.html, and ../0052.html). I visited Santos Tovar and Ronnie Corning and both of them said they would like to go on the High Adventure with me this year. I wish Rob would go. Oh well! At least he now has his GED."

I'm interested in sharing weekly a "thoughtlet" (little statements of big thoughts which mean a lot to me) with you because I know how important the written word can be. I am concerned about how easy it is to drift and forget our roots and our potential among all of distractions of daily life. To download any of these thoughtlets go to http://www.walden3d.com/thoughtlets or e-mail me at rnelson@walden3d.com.

With all my love,
Dad
