1476_Christ_Pilate_Bosch.txt http://www.artbible.info/art/large/209.html Jheronimus Bosch ca. 1450 – 1516 Ecce Homo oil on panel (75 × 61 cm) — ca. 1476 of later Städelsches Kunstinstitut, Frankfurt am Main Jheronimus Bosch biography This work is linked to John 19:5 The Roman governor Pontius Pilate presents the captured Jesus to the priests and the people. "Behold the Man!" he says, thus emphasizing that in his opinion Jesus is not the king of the Jews. Jesus has been scourged, even though Pilate did not consider him guilty. But the crowd wants more and demands crucifixion. This is one of Bosch' earlier works. Many of the figures are still a little stiff, but the expression on their faces is very strong. In the background, a nice view on a medieval city.
