The dead arise from their graves. Archangel Michael weighs them with his scales. Some end up in hell (on the right), others are welcomed to heaven by Peter. Jesus descends from heaven to administer justice. The triptych was ordered by Angelo Tani, an Italian trader living in Brugues. He had it sent by ship home to Italy, but the ship was captured a warship of the Hanseatic League. At the time, the Hanze was hindering all traffic to England because of a trade conflict. That is how the painting ended up in Danzig, present day Gdansk.
