1305_The_Last_Judgement_Giotto.txt http://www.artbible.info/art/large/398.html Giotto ca. 1267 – 1337 The Last Judgement fresco (10 × 8,40 m) — 1304-1305 Cappella Scrovegni (Arena Chapel), Padua Giotto biography This work is linked to Revelation 20:4 This is Giotto's largest work in the Arena Chapel. The top part shows heaven, with Jesus in the middle and apostles on both sides. Jesus is casting the Last Judgment. The lower half shows the chosen ones being escorted to heaven, and the doomed who are thrown into hell. It is possible that the writer Dante, an acquaintance of Giotto's, was inspired by this depiction of hell when he wrote his Inferno. The cross in the middle is being held by the archangels Michael and Raphael. A remarkable scene at the bottom: the man who ordered the Arena Chapel, Enrico Scrovegni, presents a model of the chapel to the virgin Mary.
