Pedigree Charts are derived from the Family Group Sheet Information above. 2. Each Pedigree Chart is numbered from the database based on the Husband's or Wife's Index Number as found on the Family Groups Sheets: a. XXX = Initials of person building database. b. XXX1-01 = index number of person building database. c. XXX1-02 = index number of father. d. XXX1-03 = index number of mother. e. XXX1-04 = index number of paternal grandfather. f. XXX1-05 = index number of paternal grandmother. g. XXX1-06 = index number of maternal grandfather. h. XXX1-07 = index number of maternal grandmother. i. XXX1-08 = index number of paternal grandfather's father. j. XXX1-09 = index number of paternal grandfather's mother. k. XXX1-10 = index number of paternal grandmother's father. l. XXX1-11 = index number of paternal grandmother's mother. m. XXX1-12 = index number of maternal grandfather's father. n. XXX1-13 = index number of maternal grandfather's mother. o. XXX1-14 = index number of maternal grandmother's father. p. XXX1-15 = index number of maternal grandmother's mother. 3. The next set of pedigree charts are each numbered the same way, except for the number following the XXX (Initials). The Pedigree Charts are numbered sequentially from top to bottom. I.E. a. XXX002-01 = index number of paternal grandfather's paternal grandfather. b. XXX003-01 = index number of paternal grandfather's paternal grandmother. c. XXX004-01 = index number of paternal grandfather's maternal grandfather. d. XXX005-01 = index number of paternal grandfather's maternal grandmother. e. XXX008-01 = index number of paternal grandmother's maternal grandfather. h. XXX009-01 = index number of paternal grandmother's maternal grandmother. i. XXX010-01 = index number of maternal grandfather's paternal grandfather. j. XXX011-01 = index number of maternal grandfather's paternal grandmother. k. XXX012-01 = index number of maternal grandfather's maternal grandfather. l. XXX013-01 = index number of maternal grandfather's maternal grandmother. m. XXX014-01 = index number of maternal grandmother's paternal grandfather. n. XXX015-01 = index number of maternal grandmother's paternal grandmother. o. XXX016-01 = index number of maternal grandmother's maternal grandfather. p. XXX017-01 = index number of maternal grandmother's maternal grandmother. 4. The next set of pedigree charts are numbered the same way. Back in 1978 I had a formula for for calculating the pedigree chart number, and I don't remember what that formula is. XXX002-08 parents are XXX018 and XXX019 XXX002-09 parents are XXX020 and XXX021 XXX002-10 parents are XXX022 and XXX023 XXX002-11 parents are XXX024 and XXX025 XXX002-12 parents are XXX026 and XXX027 XXX002-13 parents are XXX028 and XXX029 XXX002-14 parents are XXX030 and XXX031 XXX002-15 parents are XXX032 and XXX033 XXX003-08-15 parents range from XXX034 and XXX049 XXX004-08-15 parents range from XXX050 and XXX065 XXX005-08-15 parents range from XXX066 and XXX081 XXX006-08-15 parents range from XXX082 and XXX097 XXX007-08-15 parents range from XXX098 and XXX113 XXX008-08-15 parents range from XXX114 and XXX129 XXX009-08-15 parents range from XXX130 and XXX145 XXX010-08-15 parents range from XXX146 and XXX161 XXX011-08-15 parents range from XXX162 and XXX177 XXX012-08-15 parents range from XXX178 and XXX193 XXX013-08-15 parents range from XXX194 and XXX209 XXX014-08-15 parents range from XXX210 and XXX225 XXX015-08-15 parents range from XXX226 and XXX241 XXX016-08-15 parents range from XXX242 and XXX257 XXX017-08-15 parents range from XXX258 and XXX273 XXX018-08-15 parents range from XXX274 and XXX289 etc. 5. The two things that make this database approach an improvement on existing genealogy systems are: a. Links to digital photographs or scans of original documentation can be tied to each individual entity on each Family Group Sheet or on each Pedigree Chart. b. The entire database can be renumbered and/or copied for a parent, child, uncle, aunt, cousin, or other person interested in having their own set of the data. 6. In addition the data can be stored at a central family web site, and everyone can have access to the work everyone else is doing. 7. The key is to making this work is to make it transparent in relating past work with the new system. PAF files need to be easily entered into the database. The database needs to be able to write data out into PAF files. In addition there needs to be forms which allow family members to enter data over the Internet. This means that Aunt Luana, Aunt Clara Jean, Aunt Shirley, Uncle Ted, Uncle Dick, cousin Dale Bills, cousin Darrell Krueger, second cousin Keith Nelson, etc. can all enter data independently, and all will see and have access to the results of each other's work.
