Welcome to "the engines of my love," a regular review
of why I love you, Martha Ellyn Sharp Nelson, and no
other woman.
I love you because you never questioned my motivation, my interest,
or my desire to provide the opportunity for a family vacation this
summer. World Wide River Explorations was chosen because it fit the
schedule. I thought I could afford it, and I still believe the money
will all work out. I thought I was doing this for my kids and as a
family bonding experience. However, it turned into an opportunity for
me to be able to regroup in the deserts I love so much, to consider the
ageless wonder of geologic processes, and to contemplate the consistency
of a mighty river working it's way towards the ocean. Just as gravity
is the controlling spatial force, I believe there is a `time gravity,'
and a `spiritual gravity' driving us along the river of life towards
our ultimate destiny in the arms of our Lord and Savior. Just as there
are rapids on the Colorado River, there are treacherous rapids in our
individual lives. If we are not diligent, we can lose our footing and
drown in the filthy waters beneath the spiritual iron rod. If we are
not careful, we can slip outside of time and meet our destiny ahead of
schedule and before we have an opportunity to watch a sunset on the
ocean as our Colorado River flows into our Baja. There may be a Glen
Canyon or a Hoover Dam on our life's river, smoothing out some of the
rapids, and providing temporary diversion from our life purpose.
However, if we trust in the various gravities of our life we will
make it to our destination. I hope you will be there with me when I
make it to my port because I love you.
