SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION RULES AND PROCEDURES

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP-$5,000 for travel and study in Europe

The LAJOS MARKOS ART FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP will be awarded this year at the New Ulm Art Festival to an eligible student who is seriously interested in pursuing a career in traditional, representational visual art. The student must be presently studying art at the college level or above or with a private instructor. Photography is not included in this awards program. The Scholarship is intended to enhance the recipient's study of art by funding travel (a) to Italy for the express purpose of studying art in museums or (b) study/travel elsewhere abroad or in the United States, as deemed in keeping with the purposes of the Foundation. TRAVEL MUST BE COMPLETED BY NOVEMBER 1, 2000.

ELIGIBILITY

While race and gender are not factors in the selection process, the scholarship committee will give strong consideration to those students who otherwise would not be able to fund their own travel. To be considered for a scholarship, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Is a U.S. Citizen, 18 years of age or older and has never been convicted of a felony.
  2. Is seriously pursuing a career in traditional, representational visual art.
  3. Is presently studying art at the college level or above, or with professional artists outside the formal academic classroom.
  4. Is able to show that his or her own work and artistic preferences conform to traditional, representational values.
  5. If chosen, agrees to attend the prescribed course of study within the time frame as arranged by the LAJOS MARKOS ART FOUNDATION
  6. If chosen, agrees to give (a) a written report and photographs to the Foundation following the travel/study, along with (b) a piece of his or her artwork which will be used to generate further scholarship funding and promotion.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

To be considered for a scholarship, the applicant must submit the following:

  1. Application Form, completed in full.
  2. Signed Release of Liability.
  3. Six (6) or more slides and/or six (6) or more photos of applicant's art work. Slides should be properly labeled on the slide.
  4. A Teacher's Letter of Recommendation.

Applications must be received by The LAJOS MARKOS ART FOUNDATION by March 1, 2000. The winner will be notified by March 20, and must send or deliver at least one of the winning entries to The New Ulm Art Center, Pecan at Taylor Streets, New Ulm, Texas 78950 (409.992.3337) by March 30 to be on exhibit during The New Ulm Art Festival for the month of April.
