. . . Best Practices Index Page

Best Practice requires documentation. Since everyone is smarter than anyone, the Best Practice on creating documentation is to form a community-of-interest around a topic, using a formal methodology to create a Best Practice of relevance to everyone interested. This process can be summarized with the following six steps:

Clicking here
or on the image above will bring up the top leve IDEF-0 activity model for this process. Note the key to creating Best Practices is documentation. Proper Best Practice documentation has been demonstrated to create 35% cost improvements for each time going through the Demming Cycle of: Typically the length of this Demming Cycle is the time from project initiatiation to final report on the project. A project can be anything, for example 3-D seismic acquisition at a specific site. Several years ago Fletcher Challenge Petroleum demonstrated the 35% cost improvement with formal documentation of acquisition of a 3-D seismic survey in the Taraniki Basin (see http://www.walden3d.com/og2). Fletcher Challenge's formal definition of Best Practices (see http://www.walden3d.com/og1/bp.html), led to understanding the components to include in Best Practice Documentation: Walden 3-D, Inc. has spent the last several years perfecting and semi-automating the process of documenting these Best Practice Components. This was recently demonstrated with the creation of a "Best Practice on Real-Time Drilling" by H. Roice Nelson, Jr., a geophysicist.
